HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!!! Growing up, this was my mom's favorite holiday. She always said it was because it was a laid-back holiday...no fancy meals, no presents to buy, no getting dressed up. It was a day to swim, cook out and shoot off fireworks. And we always had the most fun...Mom ran they pool so we swam all day long and then usually came home and cooked out burgers. Dad still grills the best! Afterwards, we'd wait for it to get dark and then head to our small town's fireworks display down at the baseball field. It was cool...but not nearly as much fun as running back home so we could shoot off our own fireworks. Mom would buy TONS from the cheerleaders' fireworks stand and we'd shoot them off for an hour. One year, a roman candle fell over just after it was lit and it shot out everywhere....for some reason, we all ran to the garage! A couple went off in there and it was LOUD! One singed my sister's eyebrow. I think that was the last firecracker of the night.
Tonight, we aren't sure what we are going to do...but right now, the kids are out buying firecrackers with their dad. Snap and pops and the glow worms are favorites right now. I hope you all have a wonderful Fourth...and thanks to ALL our men and women in uniform who keep this day a holiday for all of us. God Bless America!
